Friends and members!
I’m so pleased to kick off the magical monthly membership for another year! I wanted to talk a little bit about the origins of the planner and how it developed and then announce two new products for members.
First of all, this planner (and honestly circlethrice.com) wouldn’t exist without Gordon White and his premium membership over at www.runesoup.com. If you only have $10 a month to spend on any magic this coming year, I’m going to tell you right now to go join his membership (if you have a second $10, go ahead and join mine, but if you have to choose – pick his). It’s THE BEST magical ROI on the Internet. You will learn so much and you will be part of an amazing global community of weirdos who are making the world a better place.
I’m an OG member and Gordon’s very first course (on sigils) introduced me to the Hygromanteia. Gordon’s ideas on picking auspicious days and hours for certain kinds of magic based on this book were a game changer for me. I got the Marathakis translation and really started digging in… not to conjure spirits so much, but to level up my magic through use of the lunar days combined with the electional astrology I’ve been teaching myself. We shared spreadsheets of timings across the membership (a special shoutout to Andrew Kirksey because he is amazing).
I literally sat with planetwatcher.com and went day by day for a whole year, looking at how the planets moved through the zodiac. I tried spells on certain days and times and adjusted to create my own magical hour system. I added Decans and Saints Days, started calculating auspicious and detrimental positions across all planets and aspects between them, and experimented with all kinds of spell craft, including mitigations against timings that were crap as well as leaning into those that are good. This is the source of the original Next Week in Magic blog posts, that talked about magic to try each week.
Because I’m more of a paper and pen person in my daily life, it was natural for me to incorporate the magical timings I was coming up with into my bullet journal. Check out this old picture from 2017 – I’ve been doing this a long time!
The more information I added, the more laborious the copying process was. Eventually, I made myself a template so that I could type the data in and print it out. I’d tuck it into my bound book and it really worked well.
And so the Magical Monthly Planner was born. I prettied up my template and in June of 2020 (just after getting diagnosed with cancer) I sent out the first planner (with a month list and weekly pages) to a handful of trusting folks. It’s been a year and a half since then and I’ve redesigned the planner as a printable booklet using the gorgeous Physis Astrological Typeface, relaunched the week in magic posts to members, added a forum for questions and sharing, and offer free flash consulting sessions. My goal is to always add more value for the same cost.
Long term members might recall that I put out a survey last year asking what aspects of the planner people used most. Based on this feedback in 2022, the Magical Monthly Planner is being delivered in THREE forms:
The Magical Monthly Scheduler – this is the planner in its current form, with a space for each week to add your schedule.
This could function as your entire schedule…
The Magical Monthly Journal – this is for those of you who don’t use the scheduler portion of the planner. Maybe you need to keep your schedule online to collaborate with others. Maybe your schedule is just too crazy. For you, I’m proud to present the Magical Monthly Journal, with more space for weekly goals / tasks, a habit tracker, and a place to take notes, record magical results, or journal.
The Magical Monthly Digital – when I switched to using Psysis for astrological symbols, a few folks found the planner suddenly less useful. Why? Because they were copying and pasting the planner into their online calendars and the glyphs didn’t copy correctly. I get it! I also get the urge to sometimes check what’s coming up without having to go grab my planner. So now, you can download the planner directly into your Calendar. Any calendar that will allow importing data through a .csv file can now include magical information for each day of the month.
Members, you have access to all three files on the planner page right now and I’ll be putting out a January overview with more details on other small changes to the planner in 2022 and plans for the rest of the year.
If you aren’t a member but think you might like to be, go to the Magical Monthly Membership page and use the code TryItFree. Your first month is on me!
