Tl;dr: Kaitlin is the read deal and her products are excellent.
I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Kaitlin Coppock, the Astro Mage behind Sphere + Sundry, at As Above. While I don’t think it’s healthy to treat magic as too much of a in-club or clique, I do think it’s useful to say that Kaitlin is a very authentic, kind, professional, and lovely person. It’s useful because this type of hand-crafted product is going to naturally reflect the skill and personality of its creator to a greater degree than something mass produced. In addition, I personally value organization and competence (surprising no one) and can see the value this brings to her wares. Everything about her and her products show a high degree of quality and care in additional to significant magical skill.
At As Above I also had the opportunity to explore her products in person (she even gave me a boost of Sol in Leo spray when I was flagging at the Members’ Drinks). It’s a rare treat to be able to see so much of her line and handle the products before purchase, and there was no question that these are real and very potent magical talismanic creations. All of her products are truly lovely, but I chose to purchase her oils. I find oils to be incredibly flexible for magical work and generally have a personal affinity for them. That said, if you wanted a magical bath, self-lighting incense, candles, etc. I have no doubt you will be equally pleased with her offerings.
While I could feel the energy coming off the bottles as soon as I unwrapped them, I didn’t want to write a review until I’d used the product in an actual magical operation. That means cracking the seal and getting busy with it. Hence this first review for Jupiter’s Bounty oil.
When I first unwrapped the oil and held it in my hand, I felt the strangest feeling of a kind of combination of satiety and hunger. It was like a sense of crowning power, but also wanting more. This makes perfect sense considering the expansive nature of Jupiter energy.
I’d been doing a lot of Jupiter work this past year, but wanted to mark the last Thursday with Jupiter in Sagittarius (until 2030) AND my Jupiter return with something special. I used the oil to anoint a beeswax candle in the night hour of Jupiter and said both the Orphic Hymn to Zeus and Kaitlin’s own prayer (which I love and had been using all year) from this excellent page. I only changed the prayer to use we and our instead of me and my in the spirit of household magic.
My goal here was not only to call on Jupiter sovereign in His own kingdom for the last time, but to connect the oil to that energy more directly for mitigatory Jupiter remediation work through the rest of the year. In this, I think it was very successful. And there was one result that manifested that I think is worth mentioning…
We have been working to help our teenager to be more empowered and sovereign in his life, while still providing the right amount of support. As anyone who’s had a teenager knows, this isn’t always the smoothest process. Well, without oversharing, I can tell you that a bunch of stuff came to a head in the three days after the Jupiter rite, with the result that he seems to feel much more in charge of his life and less in the thrall of his (to be honest, completely legitimate) fears.
I will say that these was something of a purging process here, with the ideas and perceptions and habits that tend to hold us back coming out in a way that was ultimately healing — for all of us. And, full disclosure, it was pretty unpleasant for those few days. But in my experience, this is pretty typical. Powerful magic tends to have powerful results, which can cause this kind of temporary upheaval.
And, just to wrap up, the Jupiter’s Bounty oil is POWERFUL MAGIC.
