So, as we head into Leo season, I begin to sleep better and feel more focused. This year, the August 4th new moon in Leo is one of the best days for enchantment in August and it’s close enough to my solar return to be particularly meaningful.

In addition to my usual solar return magic (which focuses on a theme related to my time lord for the year – Jupiter in this case) I’m going to be doing a solar heart strengthening ritual starting on the New Moon. If you are looking for options, one possibility is the Helios Consecration Rite from the PGM (here’s Polyphanes’ version of the rite). I worked the rite some years back and it was very powerful. It’s meant for a strong solar alignment, and I think for those of us on the top half of the planet at least this Leo full moon qualifies.

I recommend this kind of working because things are getting increasingly crazy out in the world. And our ability to stay clear hearted and shine our lights out into the world is going to be absolutely critical for getting through all of this. We must focus on the better world we are creating if we are going to stay coherent.

While I typically lean toward doing more frequent and simpler enchantments, there’s also a time and place for doing the big work of magic. The trick is that, like any larger project, you need to plan ahead. One of my recommendations for using the planner is to look ahead and identify key dates on which you might do more elaborate workings adjusting the working based on the days in the coming month that are most promising. One of my plans involves anointing and blessing a batch of beeswax candles as solar light candles for use through the year.

I’ve mentioned this on my substack recently, but this autumn isn’t a great time for practical enchantment. That means leaning into the good space weather we have now. You might compare this to the act of ‘putting by’ the harvest. Do all the good enchantment and blessings now so that you can tap into your stores during difficult times later.

Make hay while the sun shines I guess!

Also, quick note, if you didn’t see my previous announcement, I recently had the good fortune of meeting and hanging out with Danny Nemu. Danny is a hypnotist, independent researcher, speaker, and author. He came to my part of the world for a conference so naturally I arranged a hang out with all the usual suspects… er, I mean my local magical friends. As part of general hijinks, we got the idea to offer a live hypnotic induction for the group.

The induction — which is like an extremely effective and powerful hypnotic guided meditation — was to go to the graveyard and meet with Hecate. See, Hecate is a spirit on a mission right now. I’ve been working with Her since 2010, but lately I’ve seen Her power and influence in the wider magical community expand exponentially. Everyone was having all the engagement and synchs and omens about Her so it felt very natural and right to focus on Her. I was honored to have a role in the induction itself.

The in-person induction went so well that we decided to do an online version that we would record, edit, and release. We managed to gather a group of inductees on the fly over Zoom (thanks all!) and the recording is now live and available for purchase on his site. I was thrilled to host Danny and super impressed with his skills as a hypnotist and magician. My hope is that we can work together in the future on both additional inductions as well as some stuff I have planned for my courses. He’s great and deserves your support, so go check out his stuff.

If you were in the induction Zoom call and need the recording, please reach out to either me or Danny.
